Pinterest : The Next?

We heard about Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and some other more professional social networks like LinkedIn and ApnaCircle. And we love finding people on them and sharing our pics (with albums). The interfaces are nice as well. Good enough to have been holding a big chunk of user base on each of the respective sites. We keep asking ourselves if there is any need of another network; social or professional in nature. Are users out there looking at a new interface to interact with?
Pinterest
Pinterst, a web pinboard, was started around 2 years back. No media hype around it, it continued to grow as far as the user base is concerned. Not until last few weeks that people started buzzing around the network. The unique visitor base grew from around 1.5 million in September 2011 to more than 7 million by the end of the last year. This supposedly created another interesting study of Pinterest driving more visitors to different sites as compared to other social giants platforms.
Why the sudden buzz??
The era of bloggging hasn't faded away, but then you need to write long posts to stay connected with the users/visitors. Platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Google+ brought about a sudden reprieve as people were putting in events in around 140 characters posts. On Piterest, however, you just needed to pin something like you may do on any usual notice board. The benefit being that the thing being pinned doesn't have to be necessarily created/drafted by you. Ladies love it, don't they :).
The idea of this kind of interface, bought with it a sudden paradigm shift. At least that's what it seems like for now. You have teh option of pinning anything you like on some virtual boards that you can create yourself. And then you have the option of re-pinning things that your followers/friends on the network already pinned to thier respective boards. So, for example if you want to buy a car and are looking for some suggestions, go pin your choices on a board and get the suggestions. A bride would do the same on his wear collections.
So, you share things a lot quicker than you would post; Things are more appealing when they are visuals rather than some written nonsenses that people skip most of the time since they may be lazy to read; You get opinions/suggestions faster, and that matters.
So we had social networks and professional networks; now is the time we start having visual social networks that may also be professional in nature. How? read on...
As a business person you may want people to see more n more of your product images. You would want the product news (which in this case are more visuals) to go viral. So you can always pin your products images and link them back to your site. Which in a way should work just as good as the backlinks for which company' spend some time with SEO experts. Don't forget the social (its a visual social network after all) thing though. Because of the sole nature of it being social, if you want your product visuals to be pinned and re-pinned, make sure you are indulging in the same practice that you want your followers to be addictive to. Don't just go about doing your stuff. Make sure you re-pin and comment on your followers pins as well, just the way you would like them to do yours. Or else, just be eft out alone in between a lot of pins that may punture your business, at least on this network.
Our Suggestion
Take a chance with it. Create your profile (leave your email Ids in comment if you need an invitation) on Pinterest. Add some boards and then some pins to them. Once you have followers, dont forget to interact with thier pins; providing suggestions and re-pinning thier pins. Don't leave your followers alone and you will see how good backlinks your pins become for your business. It should take around a couple of month to judge if it suits your business.
What to do once you are in
Create Boards; This is the first thing you will need to do before you actually start to pin anything. So make sure you decide what type of boards to create. And once you have them, all that is left is pinning!
Some words are still required; Once you are ready to pin, make sure you describe your pin well. This will help people understand your pins well.
Use the bookmarklet; There is a bookmarklet available that you could use to pin things on Pinterest. Here is the link to it Pinterst Bookmarklet!
Now start pinning images/videos as much as you like.
Post's Tip: Once you pin something froma sitea nd open the image (visual), you can see what other images have been pinned form the smae site. Start exploring this powerful feature to be a powerful pinner :)
Looking for some Pinterst Apps? We heard the iPhone one is good, the android one availble on the market is very buggy and we would recommend not to use that, or at least search on Google to read more about it.
Have fun pinning and Crunching!!
