Is Google really slogging? Shouldn't be a surprise for all out there who know Google. So, while only a handful of Android sets are on ICS (Android 4.0) and the code named Jelly Bean' is yet to be served to your plates; we hear that the new version, specifically the sixth, is due to be christened as Key Lime Pie. This is yet another American dessert and as we know the Android history the different versions since, 1.5, are named after the desserts and that too in the alphabetical order.
The news comes out after The Verge, reported that they have been tipped by a reliable source on the name. They also claim that the source is the same who tipped them about the Jelly Bean. Any other details on the version number and/or its release date were not reported. You may read the whole story here.
Don't forget of course that Jelly Bean is yet to be officially released by Google. Looking at the number of android handsets starting to receive the ICS update, we can safely assume Jelly Bean wouldn't be out before late in to summer this year. Which means that the sixth version, tipped to be named KLP, wouldn't be there for use anytime before 2013.
Is Google going too fast with Android releases? Did you get the Android 4.0 yet? What do you think about the new code name KLP? Let us know in the comments!

Have some news on when ICS will be available in India? Does the carrier play any role in the update being fast?
ReplyDeleteI have a GSM Nexus S, bought from US!
Hello Milind,
ReplyDeleteAs far as we know the ICS update was initially based on the Geo location but then rolled out all over world. There was news on the GSM version of Nexus S getting the update first. Then there was a hold up on the over-the-air(OTA) update.
Since then different company' have started to announce the ICS update on their respective handsets. You should have received it by now, as the carrier doesn't play that big a role in OTA update. However you may force check on your handset using "*#*# 2432546#*#*" (w/o quotes of course) on your handset. Be aware that this is just a check, it doesn't guarantee that your set will receive the update just like that.
If however you may want, check www.xda-developers.com; they have a manual update ROM available made available by their developers for Nexus S and going by the reviews the ROM is quite stable as well. You may find the procedure any where on their site or some related blog.
Hope that provides you will all answers. Thanks for checking the post and keep coming for more!
Hi,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reply. I have already had it a couple of times with the force check that you say here. Although as you say, it actually does nothing more than may be keep me in the race when OTA comes in my area.
I am not too keen on using the manual ROM available from XDA, as I find rooting the phone a bit scary. Again, thanks for the suggestions.
